More importantly, Ultrasonication reduces separation time from 5 to 10 hours (using conventional agitation) to less than 30 minutes. The amount of catalyst required is decreased by 50% and the amount of alcohol required is reduced to 15% (a 25% savings) due to the increased chemical activity in the presence of cavitations.
